Shoton Yoghurt festival
The 2011 Shoton Festival will be held from August 29th to September 4th, 2011, in Lhasa, with the theme of “Happiness Lhasa” and “Colorful Shoton”. The Shoton Festival, which was listed as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2006, is second only to the Tibetan New Year festival, with the literal meaning of the festival of having yoghourt.
During the festival, tourists can enjoy a variety of characteristic celebration activities and performances, such as: performance of Tibet an opera, exhibition of Intangible Cultural Heritage, an equestrian performance, Namtso Lake Hiking assembly, photography art exhibition, Buddha painting show, visiting Norbu Linka, horse race and yak race. It’s a God-given opportunity for participants to experience the unique charm of Tibetan culture as well as gladdening the hearts and pleasing the eyes.
